Hotel Rates for Your Guest Count: Adults, Kids and Their Ages

Price Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton and IHG stays in points and cash for your real party: adults, children and each child's age, with alerts that check for it too.

Yes, the number of guests can change a hotel’s price, and so can your children’s ages. A room that sleeps three won’t take a family of four, a third adult can add an extra-person charge, and some resorts price every child by age. Many award search tools price every search for two adults, so a family ends up comparing prices for a room it can’t book. HotelXray prices the party you set, adults and children with their ages, across the whole month on Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton and IHG.

Does the number of guests change the hotel price?

It often does, in two ways.

The first is the room. Every room has a maximum occupancy. A King room that holds three disappears from a search for four, and so does any award that only that room had. When the rooms that fit your family are sold out, a two-adult search still shows availability that isn’t there for you.

The second is the price. Hotels can charge for each guest beyond two, and children may stay free or pay by age. Each chain’s own terms show how much this varies:

Ages matter most at all-inclusive resorts. When we priced one night at Hyatt Ziva Cancun in October 2026 for two adults and one child, a 1-year-old cost the same as two adults alone, $1,015. A 5-year-old raised it to $1,162, and a 15-year-old to $1,230, the price of three adults.

Why a two-adult price can mislead a family

Here is how it can play out, with made-up numbers. Two adults and two children, aged 7 and 10, want three nights in December. A two-adult search shows a King room at 20,000 points a night, and the trip looks easy. But that room holds three. The room that fits four has no award on two of the three nights, and its cash rate adds a charge for the extra guests.

Priced for two, the trip looks bookable on points. Priced for four, it isn’t, and you find out before you plan around it.

Open a hotel and use the Guests row in the side panel:

  1. Select Guests.
  2. Set Adults and Children, and pick each child’s age.
  3. Select Apply.
The Guests editor open below the Guests button: a saved party of 4 adults above the current 2 adults, Adults at 2, Children at 2, Child 1 aged 7 and Child 2 aged 10, with Cancel and Apply buttons
Two adults and two children, aged 7 and 10.

The month reloads for your party. Every night shows the points price, the cash rate and the cents per point for the people actually traveling, and a night with nothing that fits shows ✕. Pick a date and the night’s rooms are priced the same way, with rooms too small for your family left out. Search results and flexible dates follow the same party, and the booking links open the hotel’s site with your guests filled in.

The HotelXray controls with the Guests button set to 2 adults, 2 children and the line Showing results for 2 adults, 2 children in USD, prices include fees, before taxes, above the December 2026 calendar for Hyatt Regency Chicago with points, cash and cents per point on every night

HotelXray remembers the parties you use, so a family that always travels as the same four people sets it once and picks it from the list next time.

Get an alert when the right room opens up

When the award or price your family needs isn’t there yet, an award & rate alert can wait for it. The alert form’s Guests section starts with the party you’re already using, and every check prices the stay for that party. A rate that only fits two adults never sets it off.

The Set alert form for December 14 to 17, 2026, Exact dates, the Guests menu set to 2 adults, 2 children, ages 7, 10, and Notify me about on Cash with a Max nightly rate of 300 USD, including fees and before taxes
A cash alert for three nights, at $300 a night or less for the whole family.

When it finds a match, the email names your party, children’s ages included, and its booking button opens the hotel’s page with the same guests filled in.

Each chain’s alert guide covers the rest: Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton and IHG.

Plan the rest of the family stay

Your party works with the rest of the calendar. Free cancellation rates show the cheapest refundable price for your family, and corporate rates are priced for it too. Once you’ve booked, reservation monitoring watches the booking and emails you if it gets cheaper.

Club lounges can save a family a meal or two, but some limit how many guests come in or keep children out of the evening service. The Hyatt, Marriott and Hilton lounge guides cover each chain’s rules.
